The Centre Dürrenmatt Neuchâtel (CDN) showcases the work of the Swiss writer and painter Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921–1990). Known throughout the world for his plays and novels, he was also a passionate painter and draughtsman throughout his life. The CDN also stages temporary exhibitions and events, especially concerts and discussions.
Designed by Mario Botta, the CDN incorporates the writer and painter’s former villa into its architecture. The museum is located in the verdant Vallon de l’Ermitage and boasts magnificent views of the lake and the Alps.
Inaugurated in 2000, the CDN is a unit of the Swiss National Library. It works closely with the Swiss Literary Archives, which hold the literary estate of Friedrich Dürrenmatt.
