Anna Felder (1937–2023) obtained a doctorate in Italian literature from the University of Zurich with a thesis on Eugenio Montale. A long-serving teacher of French and Italian at the cantonal school in Aarau, she divided her time between German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino. Her deeply sensitive and delicately humorous works are much admired by literary critics. Frequently translated into German and French, Anna Felder has had her novels and collections of short stories published in both Ticino and Italy: Tra dove piove e non piove (Pedrazzini, 1972, then reissued by Dadò in 2015 – first serialised by the NZZ in 1970, translated by Federico Hindermann), La disdetta (Einaudi, 1974, then Casagrande, 1991) Nozze alte (Pedrazzini, 1981), Nati complici (Casagrande, 1999), Le Adelaidi (Sottoscala, 2007), Liquida (Opera Nuova, 2017). She has created radio dramas and plays that have also been performed in various cities in German-speaking Switzerland.

Anna Felder is the recipient of numerous literary awards attesting to the breadth and variety of her work. They include the Premio Italia in 1975, two Schiller Prizes (1982, 1998), the Aargauer Literaturpreis (2004) and the Swiss Grand Award for Literature in 2018.
