The Prints and Drawings Department collects artists’ books, editions and books containing original graphic works as well as special editions as a specific area of contemporary Swiss art from the end of the 19th century to the present day.

Friedrich Dürrenmatt: the pictorial works

Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s pictures were created alongside his literary works. The collection at the Centre Dürrenmatt Neuchâtel comprises around 1,000 individual images and a range of notebooks.

Karl Gerstner

The Karl Gerstner archive is held by the National Library’s Prints and Drawings Department. It is an exceptional resource for research into the internationally renowned Swiss designer of commercial art and typography.

Bernhard Luginbühl

The artist’s books and diaries of iron sculptor Bernhard Luginbühl are preserved in the Prints and Drawings Department. They provide an insight into his work through books, handwritten notes, text and images.

Doris and Serge Stauffer

The archives of Doris and Serge Stauffer, which are held by the Prints and Drawings Department of the NL, are a valuable resource for research into the socio-cultural and artistic movements and the women’s movement in Switzerland in the 1960s and 1970s.

Andreas Züst

The photographer and natural scientist Andreas Züst (1947–2000) was a legendary figure in the Swiss art world. The archive in the Prints and Drawings Department documents his highly diverse work.
