Web Archive Switzerland: Workshop 2008
Web Archive Switzerland - a common collection of patrimonial websites from Swiss cantonal libraries and the Swiss National Library
Workshop “Harvesting and listing of patrimonial websites” held April 23rd and 30th 2008 at the Swiss National Library in Bern.
Web Archive Switzerland is a project within the framework of e-Helvetica. Its goal is to build up a collection of online patrimonial Helvetica at the Swiss National Library. (NL). The partners in this project are the Swiss cantonal libraries and other interested institutions of Switzerland. The bases for this project have been developed over the last few years, notably the guidelines and criteria for the selection of defined collecting domains as well as guidelines for listing web sites. The tasks are accomplished according to a distribution of tasks agreed to by the cantonal libraries and the NL. The identification and the pre-listing are the domains of the partner institutions (according to common set guidelines). The NL is responsible for the harvesting, listing in Helveticat, archiving and access.
In 2006, intensive testing of the NL’s Ingest system was undertaken. Following the test phase the NL organised in 2007, a training session in the areas of identification and listing of websites of patrimonial importance.
In 2008, the actual exploitation phase started with pilot partners. New partners were chosen for the second test phase; a training session was also necessary for the new partners. A workshop was held at the NL on April 23rd and 30th 2008.
