Working with external partners, the Swiss National Library (NL) digitises documents from its collections and making them available online. However, copyright rules apply, which mean that certain digitised collections can only be consulted on the library’s premises.

Documents can be digitised if they meet the following criteria:

  • they are not subject to copyright
  • if they are subject to copyright, an agreement has been concluded with the publisher that allows them to be used
  • they meet user demand or fall within one of the library’s areas of specialisation (Swiss history, art and literature, information and documentation sciences)
