Websites

The collection of Web Archive Switzerland consists of websites with a bearing on Switzerland. The Swiss National Library (NL), the cantonal libraries and other specialised libraries and archives make a representative selection of the grey literature available online.

Content and scope

  • Over 20’000 selected websites for the general public
  • Websites relating to the cantons and Switzerland
  • On historical, social, political, cultural, religious, scientific and economic subjects
  • Websites that have been edited, implemented or designed by Swiss authors or authors who are related to Switzerland

Collection principles

  • Generally the selected websites are captured every two years
  • Free websites that are not password-protected

Research and access

  • Websites listed in Helveticat
  • The full texts are searchable in e-Helvetica, the entry portal to the digital collections of the NL
  • Access to the content is only possible in the public rooms of the NL and the partner institutions
  • The websites are preserved in the NL’s long-term archive so that they remain accessible for future generations
