Services and access

You can consult the collections and archives of the Prints and Drawings Department and the Federal Archives of Historic monuments free of charge for academic studies, journalistic purposes, exhibition preparations or personal interest.

Range and access

  • Original documents may only be viewed in the reading room of the Prints and Drawings Department and by prior notice (at least one week in advance).
  • The “Regulations on the Use of the Swiss National Library” apply when consulting documents as do any provisions in the relevant archive contracts.
  • Taking photographs with privately owned devices for private use is normally allowed subject to permission by the staff.
  • The inspection and photography of documents or ordering of reproductions may be restricted or forbidden, particularly for reasons of preservation, copyright or personal rights.
  • We are happy to accommodate guided tours for schools or groups whenever possible. Please contact us.
