Long-term availability of digital publications in Swiss patrimonial libraries - rising to the challenge together

Conference on November 19th, 2003, held at the Swiss National Library in Bern

What is the status of our library in the area of long-term conservation of digital publications? In which direction do we want to go and in which direction can we effectively go? Which tasks can we realistically take on? What type of progress can we realistically achieve? How should the digital collections be distributed among the various Swiss libraries?
The Swiss National Library (NL) would like to find a common ground as well as common strategies with cantonal libraries for a possible distribution of digital publications. Collaboration with cantonal libraries to find viable solutions is a priority at the NL.

Phone interviews/Web questionnaires

In order to determine the priority of discussion themes and prepare presentations as well as to lay down the foundation for discussions, phone interviews were conducted. Representatives from all cantonal libraries were contacted and interviewed during the months of May and June 2003. The information collected through these interviews was completed by information collected in Web questionnaires. The results were presented in the opening session of the conference and were distributed to participants. Thanks to the collaboration of all cantonal libraries, conference themes were defined and foundations for discussions were laid.

    Als Vorbereitung zur Tagung vom 19.November 03 wurden von Ende Mai 2003 bis Ende Juni 2003 telefonische Interviews bei allen Direktorinnen und Direktoren der Kantonsbibliotheken der Schweiz durchgeführt. Die anonymisierte Auswertung der Telefoninterviews dient den Tagungsteilnehmerinnen und Tagungsteilnehmern zur Einführung, Information und Dokumentation.

    Als weitere Vorbereitung zur Tagung vom 19.11.03 wurden die Direktorinnen und Direktoren der Kantonsbibliotheken gebeten, einen Web-Fragebogen auszufüllen. Die anonymisierte Auswertung des Web-Fragebogens dient den Tagungsteilnehmerinnen und Tagungsteilnehmern zur Einführung, Information und Dokumentation.
