Schweizer Kunst was first published in 1899 as an organ of the Gesellschaft Schweizer Maler Bildhauer (GSMB) [Swiss Society of Painters and Sculptors], which later included architects (GSMBA). This makes it the oldest European magazine devoted to art. Since 2000, the association has taken the name Visarte, but the magazine is still published once a year under the title Schweizer Kunst.
Each issue is devoted to a theme that closely concerns Swiss artists. The magazine addresses issues such as the living and working conditions of creators, analyzes artistic processes, work strategies and positions, and addresses economic, social and legal problems.
The publication is quadrilingual: German, French, Italian and English.
