Born digital collections

Born digital publications were designed for online consultation and do not exist in physical form. Webpages are a typical example of this type of document.

In accordance with its legal mandate, the Swiss National Library (NL) is also required to include digital publications in its collections.

The e-Helvetica service is responsible for the continued development of the digital collection as well as for the registration, cataloguing and indexing, long-term preservation and provision of material. The Digital Archiving service supports e-Helvetica in the technical implementation of these tasks.

The collection of digital publications is being built up on a selective basis. It is currently restricted to online theses from Swiss universities, online publications from selected Swiss publishers, online official publications from selected federal agencies and cultural heritage websites selected by cantonal and other special libraries.

The digital collection may be consulted via e-Helvetica Access.
