The Dürrenmatt Centre Neuchâtel was inaugurated on September 23rd 2000.
Charlotte Kerr Dürrenmatt, Friedrich Dürrematt’s widow donated to the Swiss Confederation Dürrenmatt’s first house as well as his property in Neuchâtel. This generous donation made it possible to exhibit the writer’s pictorial and written works at the Friedrich Dürrenmatt Foundation housed in the author’s own residence.
Mario Botta, the famous Swiss architect designed an annexe to the writer’s house where he did most of his writing and which has now become an interdisciplinary centre, administered jointly by the Swiss National Library and the Swiss Literary Archives.
