The east stack was built between 1994 and 1997 and consists of 7 underground floors, 27m deep. Its available surface area is 5’600m2 and it houses monographic documents. Work on the west stack began in March 2005. It consists of 4 underground floors and is 18m deep with an available surface area of 6,300m2. The west stack houses periodicals.
On each floor the climate is computer-controlled; the temperature is maintained at 18 degrees and the humidity at 45%.
Our Swisslog system transports documents to and from the stacks to the reading rooms. 34 trolleys (15 kg capacity) deliver documents to the loan service in about 3 minutes.
