Photograph Collection

Since 1917, the Swiss National Library (NL) has been collecting photographs to complement its print collection.  Thanks to a meticulous collecting strategy, the NL has been able to acquire numerous documents, from daguerreotypes dating back to the middle of the 19th century to contemporary agency photographs.

Like the print collection, the strong points of the photograph collection are scenes of Switzerland and portraits although photographs relative to transportation, politics, the economy, agriculture and the military also have their rightful place in the collection
