L'Educateur (The educator) is the official voice of the Syndicat des enseignants romands (Teachers' Union of Western Switzerland, SER). The magazine was founded in 1865 by Alexander Daguet with the objective of giving teachers of Western Switzerland a publication for their field. It has appeared without interruption since that date. The Educateur publishes articles on the theory and practice of pedagogy and helps to create a feeling of solidarity among teachers. These wide-ranging objectives have led to many changes during its history.
From 1921 L'Educateur cooperated closely with the Jean-Jacques Rousseau Institute (IJJR) and included the institute's own publication, l'Intermédiaire des Educateurs (the Educators' Intermediaries). A corporate newsletter was devoted to union issues. The end of cooperation with the IJJR in 1932 was marked by the merger of the two publications. From 1981 to 1995 the professional and union aspects were separated again, some appearing in l'Educateur - revue (Education - Review) and others in the l'Educateur syndical (trade union educator).
Since 1996 L'Educateur is published in its current form. The magazine has a web page.
