Federal Archives of historic monuments (FAHM)

For the past 125 years the Federal Archive for Monument Preservation (EAD) has been collecting, archiving, preserving and making available documents on subjects such as archaeology, monument preservation, historical sites and landscapes, the history of art and architecture, and popular culture. The wealth of material in the archive consists of restoration reports, plans, photographs and negatives, administrative records and publications. This material contains information on the measures taken to restore protected sites, archaeological digs and the development of historical sites and also gives answers to questions about changes to landscape, culture and society.

The EAD collections focus mainly on documentation of government-backed measures in the areas of the preservation of historical monuments, the protection of historical sites, and archaeology. The EAD holds documents from the Federal Commission for Monument Preservation (EKD), the Cultural Heritage and Historical Monuments section of the Federal Office of Culture (FOC), federal experts, and key people or institutions active in this area. The EAD also houses another fifty collections and bequests of great architectural and photographic interest, such as for example the Photoglob [postcard manufacturers] collection, the Zinggeler collection or the Bürgerhaus [local community centre] archive.

The Archive has been part of the Prints and Drawings Department of the Swiss National Library NL since 1 January 2007.
