In 1898, the Swiss National Library (SNL) became the custodian of the Friedrich Staub Collection and thus laid the foundation of its Print Room. Given the significance of the documentary aspect of the collection, it was continually developed over the years. It now contains prints dating back to the 17^th century onwards in the following areas:

• Scenes of Switzerland;
• Swiss historical scenes;
• Representations of regional culture such as customs, festivals, traditional costumes;
• Portraits of Swiss citizens and famous personalities;
• Various prints.
