Linked Data, Libraries and the Semantic Web

The presentation will discuss the work of the W3C Library Linked Data Incubator Group and its final report, and relate it to recent developments in bibliographic metadata standards and records in the context of linked data, Resource Description Framework, and the Semantic Web. These include ISBD, the Functional Requirements models, RDA, and MARC, and the publishing of linked data triples by the British Library, Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, and others. Specific topics include the mapping of legacy records to linked data formats and the interoperability of triples derived from different models for bibliographic metadata, including Dublin Core.

Gordon Dunsire is an independent consultant, formerly Head of the Centre for Digital Library Research at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. He is a co-author of the W3C LLD Incubator Group final report. He is co-Chair of the DCMI Bibliographic Metadata Task Group and a member of the DCMI Advisory Board. He is a member of the FRBR Review Group and consultant to the ISBD/XML Study Group. He is also Chair of the IFLA Namespaces Task Group.
